Privacy Policy
Effective November 1, 2026
This policy explains what SPOTTER (listed on the App Store as Gym Spotter Finder; “Spotter”, “the app”), made by Shake and Bake Labs (“we”, “us”), collects, why, and your choices. Spotter is for adults only (17+) and is not directed to children.
The short version
- No ads. No tracking. No third-party analytics.
- We never sell your data.
- Location is used only while you're using the app, when you tap I'M AT THE GYM. We do not track you in the background.
- You can delete your account and data from inside the app at any time.
Account and sign-in
You can sign in with Apple or with an email and password. Authentication is handled by Supabase. If you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email; we receive only what Apple shares with us.
Information you give us
- Profile: first name, gender, and your match preference (who you'd like to be matched with).
- Profile photo (optional): a photo you upload. Photos are approved automatically when uploaded, are shown to people you're matched with, and can be reported by other users.
- Check-ins: when you check in, we store the gym, the area of the gym you're in, the muscle group you're training, your role (need a spot, can spot, or both), and when the check-in started and ends. Your check-in is visible to matched users who are checked in at the same gym at the same time.
- Chat messages: messages you send to your connections, including meet-up and spot-request messages and whether a message has been read. Messages are visible only to you and the person you're chatting with.
- Blocks and reports: if you block or report someone, we store that so we can hide them from you and review reports.
Location
When you tap I'M AT THE GYM, the app asks for your location while the app is in use (foreground only) to find gyms near you. We use it to show and pick a nearby gym. We do not collect location in the background, do not keep a location history, and never sell or share your location for advertising.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token on your profile so we can tell you about new chat messages. You can turn notifications off anytime in iOS Settings.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of service providers only to run the app:
- Supabase: account sign-in, database, file storage (photos), and server functions.
- Expo push notification service (with Apple Push Notification service): delivering chat notifications.
- Photon / OpenStreetMap: looking up gyms near your location. Your coordinates are sent to look up nearby places; no account details are sent.
We do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell or rent personal information.
How we use information
To run Spotter: show you nearby gyms, match you with people at your gym, let you chat, send notifications you've allowed, keep the community safe (blocks, reports, moderation), and provide support.
Safety
You can block or report anyone from their chat. Blocked users can't see or message you. Please meet only in your gym and use your judgment.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). This permanently deletes your account and the personal data associated with it, including your profile, photo, check-ins and messages. You can also email us to request deletion.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll help.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
